The Plan
It was the day that I decided to propose. I had been wondering which day would be right and wondering what I should do and how I should do it. My first plan had been foiled, so coming up with a back-up plan in a short amount of time was a bit unnerving. I have had the ring for at least a month and a half by this point, and all that was to be done was to ask. Finally, February 9th came around, and I decided that I was going to follow through in keeping that day the day of the proposal.
I had called my friend to take photos the day prior, and I let her know again earlier that day to let her know what time, what to do, where to be at…you know, the details. Then it came time for the date. Lisa and I went to Applebee’s, why? Because anything too fancy would be noticeable, because we don’t do fancy because we are classy enough as it is. As we were getting ready to get on our date, I had the ring tucked in the upper part of my pants, hiding behind my belt buckle. It was very uncomfortable, but I didn’t care. We got into the car, and I was sitting with this box digging into my stomach, but only briefly. Lisa had to run back into the house, so I quickly took this box out of the waist of my pants and put it into the glove compartment.
The Preparation
We then arrived at Applebee’s. Normal dinner. Then we decided to go to Kilwin’s, a dessert place on St. Armand’s Circle. On our way there, I had been in contact with my family, as they were going to meet us after the proposal along with Lisa’s family at Gecko’s sports bar (awesome by the way if you haven’t been there). I had also been in contact with my friend who was taking our pictures to let her know that we were coming up. All of this was done discreetly of course. Lisa and I arrived at Kilwin’s and had our dessert. We ate sitting down, which was nice, but I was waiting for my friend to arrive so I told Lisa that I wanted to people watch. It was a little out of the ordinary, however, there was a cute older couple and a cute kid at the table next to us, so she was totally fine with that. My friend had arrived.
The Question
Lisa and I walked outside to just take a nice stroll in the cool of the early February night. There is a little art shop next to Kilwin’s that was having a show and it caught Lisa’s attention. She was watching a video of someone making decorative glass, and if you have passed this place, you know the video is on a constant round. I was a little caught off guard as she has seen this video before, so I ask, “What are you doing?” She said, “I’ve seen this before, but I’ve never actually paid attention to it.” It was weird, but understandable. It came time for the proposal. I was extremely nervous, however, I knew what she was going to say already. I started off with, “Lisa, I love you.” As I went to continue, she interrupted with, “I love you too, but have you seen this video??” I was a bit confused. So I started again. “Lisa, I love you.” She interrupted again, “I love you too, this video is really cool!!” I was a bit flustered, so I just pushed through. “Lisa, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” As I pulled out the ring from my belt buckle, she started freaking out (in a good way) and was ecstatic. I had bent down on one knee, as you may see in some of the photos that have been provided. At this point, Lisa also noticed my friend coming up and she was absolutely speechless. It was at that point we had our first of many engagement photos, and it was the best as it captured the moment that I made a promise to a beautiful and amazing woman, and my best friend. It is this point that I am happily stuck with Lisa, and the first day of a new hope, the hope of marriage.
